A 14-year-old boy who carried smallpox from the interior of Brazil to New York and Toronto has touched off an international alarm against the dreaded--and often fatal--disease.
James William Orr, son of a Baptist missionary in the interior of Brazil, was reported this morning to be in "very good" condition at Toronto's Riverdale hospital. He was in Toronto for almost a week. before his case was diagnosed as smallpox.

The boy arrived here a week ago yesterday by train from New York, where emergency vaccination centres yesterday treated 1,000 people who may have been in contact with him.
Health officials are preparing similar emergency vaccination in Toronto, for use if needed. However, Dr. Matthew Dymond, Ontario minister of health, said that there was, at present, no cause for alarm, nor any danger of an epidemic.
Dr. Dymond said that all known immediate contacts of the Orr boy had been placed under quarantine. He urged anyone else who might have been in contact with the boy to see their doctor immediately for vaccination.
