Dear Dr. Sword:
I wish to express to you my appreciation of the time and effort which you spent in arranging and participating in the various meetings, which took place last week, pertaining to the future of the Connaught. I believe they allowed the discussions to take place with understanding and good will. My companions during the deliberations, indeed the whole council, are in accord with this view. I would be pleased if these thoughts would be conveyed to all those involved.
May I take this opportunity to emphasize and to draw to your attention again, as I did during the preliminary discussions, that if and when the ownership of Connaught is transferred to the Canada Development Corporation, the funds then made available to the University should become a trust for support of the work of the University in areas consistent with the purposes of the Connaught. Further, that such trust should carry the name of Connaught.
We look forward to more detailed information when it is' available, particularly in the area of the continuing relationship between the senior staff of the Laboratories and the other parts of the University. We, as you know, have valued the relationships which we have enjoyed for years within the University community.
