The Connaught Fund

Celebrating 50 years of supporting research and innovation at the University of Toronto.

The Connaught Fund

As the largest internal university research funding program in Canada, the Connaught Fund supports the University of Toronto’s graduate students, early-career researchers, interdisciplinary teams, and innovators to meet the challenges facing our global society.

The Fund traces its origins back to the Connaught Labs, which played an instrumental role in the discovery of insulin and production of other vaccines in the 1920s. When the Labs were sold, the proceeds endowed The Connaught Fund. Today, the Fund’s many programs carry on the legacy of groundbreaking discovery through their support of innovative research with societal impact. Since its establishment in 1972, the Fund has supported thousands of researchers from a range of disciplines across the University of Toronto.
